Kapolei, the fastest-growing city in the fastest-growing region in the State, is experiencing unparalleled residential construction growth, as well as commercial real estate growth, as it sets its sights on becoming Oahu's next urban center.
During the past decade, investors have poured more than $1 billion into Kapolei. They have developed homes and opened more than 800 businesses, agencies and organizations which have created about 25,000 jobs in the Kapolei region alone. There are 19 projects in the planning or construction phase in Kapolei: seven retail, six office, five restaurants, one bank and two residential plus a court complex.
From 1990 to 2005, Kapolei's housing more than doubled. In 1990 there were 11,722 homes in Kapolei but that number had grown to 25,660 by 2005. By 2015, it is estimated that there will be 41,280 homes in Kapolei. Kapolei has achieved critical mass and is on its way to becoming the next urban center.
The Villages of Kapolei consist of eight privately developed residential villages, three schools, a senior housing center, a golf course, neighborhood parks and two recreation centers. Six of the villages have been built with two more planned for future development. The completed villages are named: Kapolei Knolls, Kumu lki, A'eloa, Malanai, Kekuilani and lwalani/Kulalani.
